In addition to the news of Mountain Lion being available for Apple employees, they also are eligible for the employee discounts for Apple products. This discount, announced back in January, is a big one for the company. The discount will cover Mac and iPad devices. All Mac computers, aside from the inexpensive Mac Mini, will be eligible for $500 off the retail Apple price. Apple will also provide an updated employee discount for the iPad.
The $500 discount excludes the Mac Mini and the new Retina Display MacBook Pro. Given the price of the Mac Mini the exclusion is mathematically understandable. The company frequently excludes new releases that are in hot demand (like the MacBook Pro with Retina Display) from its employee discount program. Those devices are made available once supply has caught up with demand. (The Mac Observer)
The iPad will receive a $250 discount. It’s important to remember that this is a special, not something implemented for permanent discounts. This is a drawback because it’s available only for a limited time. However, it’s great because employees can now apply it along with their 25% average discount. But employees should caution, this discount is not available every year. Apple employees, three months into the company, will only be able to take advantage of such discounts once every three years. While this is ideal for Macs – as their lifespans often exceed three years – employees wishing to take advantage of the discount with an iPad may be disappointed, particularly because Apple has shown that with the original iPad that it will only provide software updates for two years.

But that disappointment will obviously be short lived considering that Apple also announced that employees will now receive raises three months earlier than expected. However, employees should be sure their track record has been good over their time with Apple. This is due to the fact that the raises will be based on how well they performed with their specific store. All of these incentives are showing off how successful Apple has been so far, and how successful they are hoping to be in the future. As the old saying goes “A good employee is a happy employee” – or somewhere along those lines. I’m never good with remembering sayings.
