Over the weekend, a lot of updates have occurred in terms of the revamped iCloud post-Mobile Me and finally a rumored date for Mountain Lion's release. First off, with iCloud, we have updates about iCloud now allowing @icloud.com emails. For developers who have iOS 6.3 Beta, you should be able to create an iCloud.com email that works as well with your @me.com email. For example, if you have the email AppleFreak@Me.com, you will automatically also receive mail from AppleFreak@iCloud.com.
This comes after Apple discontinued Mobile Me at the end of June, now moving toward an iCloud takeover. We reviewed...
Tuesday, Google released a newer version of Google+. This newer version offers a couple of new features for iPhone users. Some of these features include Google Events options, allowing you to make events and manage them just like you would on Facebook events. You can see the RSVP list and more. There is a nearby feature, allowing you to learn which friends are right around the corner. This is perfect for scheduling an impromptu meet up. (more...)
We did a review of Google Drive back a few months ago. However there are many of you out there who are looking into committing either to Dropbox or Google Drive. While both services are good choices to narrow down to, one service has great features that the other may be lacking. Today, we will take a look at what both Dropbox and Google Drive have to offer and which one will be best for your needs, wallet, and computer. (more...)
There are new reports that Apple is currently in the process of cranking out a new iPad. This new iPad won't come with any new striking features, there will be no HD front facing cameras or the ability to call or anything. It will be the same iPad, in a smaller form factor. However, the other part of this that makes it so alluring is the cheaper price that comes with this. A cheaper iPad, while smaller, is expected to be what some call, "a rival's nightmare". One hand up that many rivals had was a cheaper device, even as we look at Window's new tablet. However, with a tablet that could be priced...
Apple is implementing iCloud into many features found in both iOS 6 and Mountain Lion. However, iCloud.com unveiled some add-ons in the beta version available today. Two additions to iCloud.com is Notes and Reminders. Notes currently can be accessed in the Mail version, in a special folder. However, with the beta version, Notes has it's own app. The Notes icon allows you to add your own notes in a UI very similar to what we see in iOS. Reminders was added in the same fashion as its iOS counterpart. Aside from Reminders and Notes, Find My iPhone has an improvement as well. Find My iPhone with...
Apple made the unlocked iPhone available to consumers a few months ago, allowing individuals to have access to the iPhone without signing up for a contract. However, individuals who weren't tied to a GSM (AT&T or unlocked T-Mobile) contract wouldn't have service for their phones. Some resort to sim cards online that allow for prepaid service, however such services aren't fit for the iPhone's data consumption. Then, the iPhone became officially available through prepaid with Cricket. Thursday, the iPhone 4S became available through Virgin Mobile for prepaid service.
Virgin Mobile has prepaid...
During WWDC, we learned about Passbook coming to iOS 6. With Passbook not live yet, well at least not on my iOS 6 Beta, it makes me wonder what else Apple could have in store for the service come the fall when everyone can have a taste of Passbook. We then look at Apple's plans, for years now, to create some form of an in-house mobile payment service in the form of NFC on one of the devices. Now, we see that as a very possible feature for the iPhone 5 come this fall. If you aren't familiar with NFC, it's a chip already available in many other phones (especially in Europe) that allows you to tap your...
As we know from WWDC, Apple announced that Mountain Lion will make its debut in July. With July being two weeks away, Apple sent out a notice to their retail workers on Thursday, welcoming them to take a look at Mountain Lion before it becomes public in July. The preview, known as a "software seeding project" in the notice, comes with some directions for the workers to follow. What differs this from some form of employee training is that the employees are able to take advantage of the preview on their own Mac computers from home. It's considered more of an employee opportunity rather than a mandatory...
In addition to the news of Mountain Lion being available for Apple employees, they also are eligible for the employee discounts for Apple products. This discount, announced back in January, is a big one for the company. The discount will cover Mac and iPad devices. All Mac computers, aside from the inexpensive Mac Mini, will be eligible for $500 off the retail Apple price. Apple will also provide an updated employee discount for the iPad.
The $500 discount excludes the Mac Mini and the new Retina Display MacBook Pro. Given the price of the Mac Mini the exclusion is mathematically understandable....
On Thursday, Flipboard officially announced that they will finally launch the application for Android devices. The version, expected to be available for users on Friday, has been available for beta testers for close to a month now. In more news on Flipboard expansion, the application will also become available out of the box for Samsung Galaxy S III users. In addition, Flipboard will be available in app stores for all Android devices. That means you can enjoy the app on everything from your Kindle Fire to your Galaxy S III, and even your Nook. This news comes as Flipboard approaches their two year...
