On Friday, we received news that Sparrow will be joining up with Google, offering a mail client that better incorporates many of Google's services, while still retaining the same Sparrow team. This comes almost 17 months after Sparrow became available. With this merger, this means that Sparrow won't have a team that focuses wholeheartedly on the product. As a result, Google will work more toward retaining the current Sparrow product, without offering up new and amazing features. For any of you out there hoping for a new feature or two to come out of Sparrow, you'll be disappointed....
Tuesday, Google released a newer version of Google+. This newer version offers a couple of new features for iPhone users. Some of these features include Google Events options, allowing you to make events and manage them just like you would on Facebook events. You can see the RSVP list and more. On Thursday, Flipboard officially announced that they will finally launch the application for Android devices. The version, expected to be available for users on Friday, has been available for beta testers for close to a month now. In more news on Flipboard expansion, the application will also become available out of the box for Samsung Galaxy S III users. When I was covering WWDC two weeks ago, I saw all of these amazing features being thrown out to the audience at the convention center. However, one thing that always came to my mind was how all of these features would be compatible on systems like iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. They certainly wouldn't be compatible on iPhone 3G, and they aren't. However, when Siri was announced, there were all of these hacks revealed on how to port Siri to your iPhone 4. There are new reports that Apple could be getting rid of the Google aspect of Maps on iPhone. While Google isn't explicitly mentioned in the iOS application, based on the design and the little logo at the bottom left, we can feel Google's presence in the current maps application. However, Apple is expected to unroll it's own mapping software, allowing the company to grow the application even further. However, could this possible freedom Apple is expecting to get come back to bit them in the you-know-what? Google released, on Tuesday, Google Drive, a service that allows you to save you digital information in the cloud. You can access the information you save on Google Drive online and on your smartphone. Google Drive is working toward becoming competition with other cloud based services like Dropbox. Google Drive is compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. You can collaborate with the documents you save on Google Drive. Google Drive gives you 5GB of memory for free to any user.
